Thanks Chris!  The gradients are very lovely.

I have a question maybe you can answer.  Is there anyway of easily doubling the color nodes?  Say if I wanted to take one of these and make two sets of repeating color bands that are half the width.  Maybe there isn't any way of doing that quickly, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.

No, there's no quick way that I know of to edit the gradient like that. All of these gradients were made by hand, node by node. It's painstaking work. The only shortcuts being to initially use F8 to create a set number of nodes that are equally spaced, the colours of these then have to be edited, of course. That's about it.

If all you want to do is double up the gradient on an image then you can change the Color Density on the colouring tab to 2. Linear works best for this. Not much help if you want to use other settings there, of course, and I'm sure you've tried it already, but that's all I can think of to get this half band size effect.

For the benefit of anyone reading this simple parameter file demonstrates the effect: Linear Transfer example

Thanks Chris, I didn't think there was but I wondered if there were tricks I didn't know about.

I know how time consuming it is to get just the right colors, especially if you are shooting for a certain luminance and saturation.

I very much appreciate it any time someone offers up gradients, especially rainbow gradients because they can't be randomly generated.

I took many of the colours from images and palettes found online using a technique shown in AnnaKirsten's tutorial here: How to make a pure UF gradient from a chart. I don't think I could have got the colours right any other way, to be honest.

So if ever you need a specific set of colours this is one way of doing it.

Oh, and I suggested a couple of new features for UF6 last year - the addition of a hex code function (e.g. entering the hex colour #D4A190 directly into the editor) and the ability to use the eyedropper colour picker *outside* the UF window. Frederik said he had noted them but whether they actually appear or not remains to be seen...

Having the ability to put in the hex code or the dropper function for outside media would be wonderful.  I did a lot of color sampling of actual mountain sunset photographs in Photoshop to do that mountain sunset fractal, but getting the color hue balanced with the saturation and luminance in the gradient window wasn't easy at all.

Thanks for the link to Anna's tutorial Chris.  Somehow I missed that one.

You're welcome, Anna's solution is a simple way to directly sample a colour from any image.
