Update, July 12th:
:trophy: I'm delighted to say that this image won first place in the contest! :D

I chose to interpret the song Across the Universe by the Beatles. The main structure represents the earthbound perspective of the singer, the hint of 60's style "flower-power" in the corner his emotions and love. These feelings and thoughts are emanating as waves into the dark, wide expanse of the universe, filled with a million suns and stars. The single bright star in the corner represents the culmination of the song, a point of light where earthly cares are shed and everything becomes One: the spiritual state of Nirvana.
I added the musical notation, with the first two bars of the song, emanating and stretching out into the farthest reaches of space because I remembered reading about NASA beaming this song out into space earlier this year and it seemed so apt: [link]
